I come by my love for art honestly! I am blessed to have a family history full of creative and gifted people including my Grand Uncle Hugo Gellert, (a well known artist of the 1930-40s) and my mother, Eve Gellert, who was also an accomplished painter.
My artistic interests began in high school and continued as I studied photography during a period of military service. Over the years my art work has spanned a variety of mediums. My greatest enjoyment comes from experimentation with the creative possibilities of combining materials.
My recent creations using fused glass and metal have produced exciting results. Individually, these materials have their own inherent beauty. Their reflective and refractive properties make light appear to dance across each surface. In my current body of work I have focused on incorporating the beauty of that phenomenon into each art piece.
During the past two years I have been working mostly in steel and glass but have recently brought copper into the mix. The "African Woman" in my "Gallery" page is the first major product of this endeavor. The piece, which measures 20" X 20," is a copper repousse sculpture adorned with fused glass and purple velvet!
